The California Community College Athletic Association has officially canceled all spring competition due to the continuing development of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
The California Community College Athletic Association has officially postponed all spring practices and competition in response to COVID-19. Just hours after the 2020 Basketball Championships were canceled, the CCCAA Board of Directors released a statement stating their decision to “immediately postpone practices outside of regularly scheduled classes, and competition for all spring sports, as well as any and all nontraditional sports seasons, indefinitely”.

Sierra Women's Basketball (NorCal #4) was scheduled to take on Moorpark (SoCal #1) Thursday at 5:00pm, but around 11:00am, the word came down: No championship would be played.
Sierra College Women's Basketball is headed to the 2020 CCCAA State Championship! With Saturday's 90-73 win over Butte, Sierra (NorCal #6) upset the Roadrunners (NorCal #3) to punch their ticket to Lemoore and a chance at the 2020 state title.
Sierra College Women's Basketball advance to the 2020 NorCal finals after last Friday's 81-75 OT win over Sequoias. By halftime, Sierra held a 4 point 31-27 lead, but the Giants came back in the second to tie it 60-60 after regulation and forcing overtime. Sierra was able to regroup and find a way to victory, advancing to the 2020 NorCal finals with an 81-75 overtime win. Sierra now travels to Butte this Saturday (March 7) for round three action, winner advances to the 2020 CCCAA State Championship in Lemoore, CA.
For the 28th straight season, Sierra College Women’s Basketball is headed to the CCCAA Playoffs, a ticket to the state championship on the line. This Friday, Sierra will host College of the Sequoias at 7:00pm in Rocklin in round 2 of the playoffs, neither team having played in the round one play ins. Sierra, the NorCal #6 seed, finished third in the Big 8 behind Delta (NorCal #1) and DVC (NorCal #2) and has a regular season record of 20-7, 10-4 in the Big 8. Sequoias went 19-9 in their 2020 season, and finished 8-4 in the Central Valley, good for second place in their league behind NorCal #5 Merced.
Sierra College Baseball has been on a roll this year, racking up a 13-2 record in non-conference play and scoring 170 runs (2nd in CA) on 194 hits (2nd in CA) and 140 RBI’s (2nd in CA). Sierra’s offense has been complemented with stellar work on the mound, with a team ERA of 1.97, the second lowest of any team in the CCCAA. Defensively, Sierra has allowed just 39 runs, with a team fielding percentage of .961.
Sierra Softball last weekend wrapped up non-conference play with wins over Shasta and Ohlone, and currently sit at 10-3-1 overall in 2020, and was ranked 8th in the state and 4th in NorCal in this weeks California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association poll.
Sierra College Beach Volleyball – the two-time defending Big 8 Conference champions and two-time defending Big 8 pairs champions – gear up for their first season of the decade with a few key sophomores and more than a few fresh faces. The three sophomores from last years team look to develop as leaders and mentors on the court, while the freshman bring a variety of talent and backgrounds to the Wolverine squad.

Women’s Basketball takes down defending state champions Diablo Valley, Baseball extends win streak to 7 and Women’s Tennis dominates at the Modesto Tournament. In addition, the Wolverine Athletic Association inducted 8 new members to the Sierra College Athletic Hall of Fame, including the 2008 State Champion Baseball team.
This week saw the Spring season really get under way, with Baseball and Softball both hosting teams in their 2020 home openers. On the road, Men’s and Women’s basketball played two games a piece, and will both be back in action at home this Friday, February 7th
In recent memory, Sierra College Volleyball has dominated both the Big 8 Conference and California community college volleyball, making appearances at the CCCAA state championships, participating in playoff appearances every year this decade, and winning four straight Big 8 titles since 2016. The 2019 team continued that tradition of excellence, with yet another Big 8 conference championship, NorCal final appearance and finished in the top 16 in the state and the top eight in northern California.
Sierra, coming off a 10 match win streak, a fourth straight Big 8 Conference title and round one playoff victory was looking for an upset and a chance to compete for the 2019 state title. Despite a valiant effort from the Wolverines, however, Cabrillo was able to edge Sierra in 5 sets for the 3-2 victory.
Sierra College Women’s Soccer hosted Clovis on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in round two of NorCal Playoff action. Despite a gusty, cold and drizzly day in Rocklin, as well as a strong Clovis squad, Sierra knocked off the Crush with a 4-1 victory, advancing to the NorCal finals against Lake Tahoe this Monday.
Sierra College Women’s Volleyball is on to round two of the 2019 NorCal Playoffs with a decisive 3-0 victory over Sequoias last Tuesday. With the win, Sierra joins the field of eight remaining NorCal teams vying for a spot at the 2019 CCCAA State Championship in Chula Vista next weekend. Sierra will face Cabrillo this Saturday in the finals, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
Sierra College Football took down Laney College last Saturday as the Wolverines brought home their second straight NorCal Grizzly Bowl title! Sierra took down the Eagles with a 21-14 victory. Last year, Sierra beat Sacramento City at home 24-10 in the same bowl game.
In a thrilling overtime victory last Saturday, Sierra Women’s Soccer knocked off Evergreen Valley 3-2 to advance to Tuesday’s Round Two match against Clovis on November 26 at 2:00pm in Rocklin.
Ninth ranked Sierra Women’s Volleyball pulled out all the stops last Friday at American River, toppling the fourth ranked Beavers in a thrilling 3-2 victory which brought Sierra neck and neck with ARC for first place in the 2019 Big 8 championship race.
The 2019 Sierra College Women’s Cross Country Team’s second place team honors is the highest team finish by Sierra College at the Northern California Championships since 1981.
Men’s and Women’s Basketball kick off 2019 season, Football adds a victory over Feather River, Women’s Soccer and Volleyball both pick up wins while Women’s Golf, Women’s Cross Country and Men’s and Women’s Water Polo gear up for conference tournaments and post season action.
Last week was the conclusion of Big 8 Women’s Golf competition, with teams heading to Modesto JC for the 10th and final round of 2019 league play. Sierra has spent the early part of the season in fierce competition with Modesto for the second and third spots. However, by the end of league competition Sierra came in as the third place team, with a total score of 128, six behind Modesto in second. Reedly took the first place spot with 158.
After a postponement earlier in the season, Sierra Volleyball traveled to Santa Rosa on Monday, October 21 to face the bear cubs. The Wolverines stumbled in the second set, but found their footing in the fourth to take down Santa Rosa 3-1 and improve to 6-2 in the Big 8.
Sierra Football improved to 4-2, adding a fourth win to their streak by knocking off previously undefeated Shasta 44-21 last Saturday in Rocklin. The Wolverine team was firing on all cylinders, with outstanding performances from offense, defense and special teams. Sierra rides their four game win streak into this Saturday’s (October 26) game at American River, kickoff scheduled for 1:00pm.
Sierra College Women’s Soccer once again leads the Big 8 conference halfway through 2019 competition, accumulating a 7-1 league record thus far. At the half way point Sierra sits as the frontrunner, and looks to continue that success in the second half of conference play and defend their 2018 Big 8 title.
It was a slower than average week for Wolverine teams as Women's Cross Country, Football and Men's Water Polo had the week off. Sierra was still in action however, as Women's Golf, Women's Soccer, Women's Water Polo, Wrestling and Volleyball all picked up at least a win a pice in competition last week.
