Sierra stays perfect in Big 8, prepares to host team, pairs championships

With two more wins last week, the Sierra College beach volleyball team remained unbeaten in the Big 8 Conference and took another big step toward claiming the inaugural conference title.

On Friday, April 20, the Wolverines dispatched Delta 4-1 and College of the Redwoods 5-0 to move to 6-0 in conference play. 

Thursday, April 26, all five Big 8 teams will be in Rocklin to conclude conference play. The team championship will come down to unbeaten Sierra and second place Feather River (4-1). Sierra will play at 11am and 3pm. 

Friday, April 27, Sierra will host the Big 8 pairs championships, with the top 16 pairs competing for eight spots at the Northern California Regional tournament beginning May 4 at West Valley College in Saratoga.  

Sierra's Savanah Schroeder and Sara Schell are currently ranked No.1 on the conference and all five of Sierra's pairs will compete for a chance to go to the regional tournament.

Schell and Schroeder teamed up to win both of their matches in Stockton, beating College of the Redwoods 21-9, 21-8 and winning 21-8, 21-10 against Delta. Kalala Strickland and Meghan Merlino won both 2s matches 21-5, 21-5 against Redwoods and 21-13, 21-20 against Delta. Maddy Rowland and Kylie Shinn posted wins in 3s, beating Delta 21-13, 21-19 and Redwoods 21-6, 21-2. Sierra won the 4s and 5s matches with Redwoods by forfeit. Grace Lemmo and Kapri Pelle fell to Delta in the 4s and 5s pair Bella Orteza and Brittany Boerstra won 21-14, 21-15.
