Diablo Valley ends Sierra win streak at 14

A winning streak that began in mid-February finally came to an end for Sierra College baseball on Monday. The Wolverines fell to Diablo Valley 6-4, ending a 14 game winning streak. Despite the loss, Sierra (19-5 overall) still sits on top of the Big 8 at 8-1. The Wolverines are one game ahead of Santa Rosa (17-5, 7-2) and Sacramento City (19-6, 7-2) in the conference standings.

Saturday, March 24, the Wolverines pounded out 19 hits and 22 runs in a 22-12 win over the Vikings. Isaiah Garcia, Zack Bushing and Matt Lopez powered the offense; each homered, Garcia twice, and posted multiple runs batted in. Garcia went 3 for 4 with seven RBI, Bushing was 4 for 5 with three RBI and Lopez added two hits in five at bats. Dylan Smethhurst had three hits in six at bats and three RBI. Smethurst is currently fourth in North Region with a .418 batting average. Garcia is fourth in runs batted in with 32. Kamaha'o Keoho picked up his second win, pitching three innings and striking out four.

Sierra won the Friday opener 4-3.

Next up for the Wolverines is a three-game series with Cosumnes River beginning Tuesday, March 27 in Rocklin (2:30pm). Sierra will play at Cosumnes River on March 29 (2:30 pm.) and return home to wrap up the series on Friday, March 30 (2:30 pm).
