3-1 win vaults Sierra into first place tie with Delta in Big 8

Sierra College baseball continued its strong season last week in a critical three-game series with Delta, the top-ranked team in Northern California.

After dropping the first two games, the Wolverines (22-8 and ranked No. 2 in Northern California) won game three, 3-1, and moved into a first-place tie with the Mustangs. Both teams are now tied for first place with 11-4 records in the Big 8 Conference. Santa Rosa is a half game back and Sacramento City one game back.

After dropping the first two games 15-6 and 12-11, Sierra got back on track with a win on Sunday, April 8.  Sierra has won 14 of its past 16 games. Nate Barry went the distance, throwing all nine innings and allowing just one unearned run while striking out six. Isaiah Garcia went 2 for 2 with two runs batted in and Dylan Smethurst hit three doubles.

In the 12-11 loss April 5, Matt Lopez hit his seventh home run of the year and went 3 for 5 with four runs batted in. Charles Middleton added two hits and two RBI and Haruto Nakano had a home run and three RBI.

Sierra takes on Sacramento City in an away, home, away series beginning Tuesday, April 10 (2:30 pm).
