As has been the case all season long, the Sierra College softball team received clutch hitting and strong pitching to edge College of the Sequoias 2-1 and earn a trip to the CCCAA State Championships.

The No. 2 seed in the north bracket, Sierra (37-7) heads to Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday, May 17 and will open the eight-team, double elimination tournament against South No. 3 seed Cypress (37-7) at 7pm.

Trailing the Giants 1-0 in the sixth, the Wolverines scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh to get past Sequoias and win the best-of-three series 2-0.

Amaryssa Medina kept Sierra in the game, pitching seven innings, allowing just one unearned run, two hits while striking out six. Medina also drove in a run and Daniella Toschi went 3 for 3 with a seventh-inning home run that proved to be the difference in the game.

In game one, Sierra pounded out nine runs in support of Medina (five innings, one run, eight strikeouts) in a 9-1 win.

McKenna Anderson (3x3) paced the offense with four runs batted in and Toni Whipkey (3x3) added two. Medina (2x2) and Virgie Robello each had one RBI. Lexi DeLozier went 3 for 4 and scored two runs.
