After opening the CCCAA Softball State Championships with a 7-4 win over defending champ Cypress, the Wolverines postseason run came to an with two straight losses.

Ranked No. 2 in the NorCal bracket, Sierra fell to Palomar 8-0 and NorCal No. 1 San Mateo 9-4 to end the season with a 38-9 record and a Big 8 Conference title.

"The heartbreak you feel slowly goes away, but the passion that burns inside you stays with you forever," said Wolverine head coach Darci Brownell, who was named the 2018 California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association Coach of the Year. "Team No. 43 made everyone who ever wore the Sierra jersey and this coach very proud! The four sophomores will forever be part of the Wolverine softball family and team No. 43."

On the mound, freshmen Amaryssa Medina finished with a 26-5 record and a 1.60 earned runs average with 195 strikeouts. Medina was equally dominant at the plate, hitting .423 with five home runs and 41 runs batted in. Medina was named Big 8 Pitcher of the Year and to the CCCAA All-State team. Medina was also named the CCCAA State Championship All-Tournament team.

Medina's battery mate, freshmen catcher Toni Whipkey, earned Big 8 Player of the Year honors and was named the 3CFCA All-State team. She hit .370, with six home runs, 35 runs batted in and posting a .990 fielding percentage.

Outfielder McKenna Anderson (.406 average, 26 RBI, 28 stolen bases), infielder Lexi DeLozier (.407, 25 RBI, 11 steals) and utility player Emily Smith (.390, 24 RBI, 23 runs scored) all earned First Team Big 8 honors. Anderson was named to the 3CFCA All-State team and Smith earned All-NorCal honors.

Holly Brennan (10-2, 1.47 ERA) and Virgie Robello (.304, 23 RBI, 40 runs scored) were Big 8 Second Team honorees and the Big 8 honorable mention team included Dani Toschi (.313, 23 RBI, 25 runs scored), Hannah Slaight (.291, 21 RBI, 28 runs scored) and Julia Cummings (.292, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored).
