#3 ranked Sierra Softball off to 17-1 start

The Sierra College softball team is third in the latest CCCAA rankings and are off to a hot start at 17-1 following an 11-3 win over American River College in five innings on Friday.

The Wolverines are averaging over six runs per game and are led by freshman Kendal Manley with six home runs and 23 RBI’s. Sierra has multiple freshmen who have been contributing to their success including Kristyn Dodd with 11 RBI’s and Arianna De La Roza with a 4-0 record on the mound in six appearances and a 1.08 earned run average (ERA). 

Sierra also has a number of sophomores who were on the team that made the state championship in 2022 who have played well to start their 2023 campaign. Eliana Enriquez is batting .569 with 11 RBI’s while Jazzy Smith has 19 RBI’s. Amaya Sutton is once again leading the Wolverines on the mound with a 8-1 record and 78 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched. 

On defense, Faith Matis leads the way with 89 put outs while Haley Simmons has 53. The Wolverines have a fielding percentage of .963. 

Sierra faces Santa Rosa on Tuesday at home before playing Modesto in a doubleheader at home on Saturday. The only two teams ranked higher than the Wolverines in the state rankings are Monterey Peninsula and Palomar.
