The Sierra College softball team is currently second in the CCCAA rankings as of March 29 and is off to an incredible 28-1 start to the season, following two wins in a doubleheader against Diablo Valley College on Monday.

Sierra College has allowed just 46 total runs all season while scoring at will with 166 runs. Their only loss came against Monterey Peninsula College back on Feb. 18. Freshman Kendal Manley has led in hitting with a .361 batting average, six home runs and 28 RBI’s. Manley has also pitched 21 innings on the mound and is 4-0 on the season with a 1.67 ERA.

Sierra College has two other pitchers also dominating in the circle. Sophomore Amaya Sutton is 14-1 with a 1.50 ERA while freshman Arianna De La Loza is 7-0 with a 0.74 ERA.

“I've been working on my pitching in the technical aspects this year, and my coach has been helping me with that a little bit,” Sutton said. “I think I’ve also improved my mental game from last season. My pregame preparation has allowed me to focus more during a game and has helped me improve my performance. One of the things that I try to tell myself is that every pitch is the start of a new game.”

Eli Enriquez is batting .457 and has 23 stolen bases. The Wolverines made the state championship last season before losing to the College of San Mateo. They are well on the path to make it back again and will continue Big 8 Conference competition on Tuesday against American River College.
