Make it 24 wins in a row for the Sierra College softball team as they traveled to Folsom Lake College on Tuesday and clawed their way to a 4-1 victory in 12 innings.

The Wolverines took an early 1-0 lead off of a sac fly by Kendal Manley and kept the advantage until the bottom of the seventh when Araceli Jaimes hit a double to tie the game. In extra innings, it was a pitcher’s duel between Sierra’s Amaya Sutton and Folsom’s Isabella Savala. Savala pitched 11 innings with four strikeouts and only allowed one run. Sutton pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and 150 pitches while also allowing just one run.

“I had to just trust that my defense would be behind me,” Sutton said. “I had all my trust that they were going to keep fighting with me until the end of the game, no matter what the outcome would be. Knowing I have a great team behind me makes me more confident in myself and makes me more focused when I’m on the mound. My coaches also help me keep my head in the game. I trust that they will make the right pitch calls and if they are confident I can continue to be effective on the mound, I’ll never question it.”

In the 12th inning, Savala was taken out and the Wolverines took advantage of the change as Eli Enriquez and Kendal Manley both hit doubles to score four runs. Sutton shut down the Falcons in the bottom of the inning to keep Sierra undefeated in Big 8 Conference play.

Sierra is now 36-1 and remains in second place in the CCCAA rankings heading into the final week of the regular season. The Wolverines play Delta in a doubleheader on Saturday before returning home to face Cosumnes River on Tuesday.
