Sierra Volleyball Undefeated in League to Win 5th Straight Big 8 Title

For the fifth straight season, Sierra College Volleyball reigns as the Big 8 Conference champion. And at 16-0 they didn't lose a single league match, a feat that hasn't been accomplished in the Big 8 since 2013 by ARC.

The 2021 season didn't start off perfect, but after shaking off the dust from a cancelled 2020 season the Wolverines persevered and found their groove right around the start of Big 8 play. In the past few months, Sierra has not lost a game, putting them at an 18 game win streak headed into post season. The Wolverine's Big 8 victory is underscored by a tumultuous two years, including a cancelled season in 2020.

"Any conference championship is special, but in the Big 8 they can be hard to come by. Honestly, this group and every athlete that has struggled through this pandemic deserves one" says Sierra head coach Alanna Whitnack. "We raise this one up for all of us that had the chance to compete again. The 5th is just recognition for two years of keeping this programs core value of legacy building at the forefront."

Legacy is not something foreign to Wolverine Volleyball. In the past 5 seasons, Sierra has racked up an incredible record of 111-29, 5 Big 8 titles, 5 postseason appearances and sophomore transfers to top four year universities around the country.

"We talk a ton about being the sum of our parts and our staff truly asks me to be my very best everyday" said Whitnack. "They are powerhouse women with powerful stories and I am tremendously lucky to have them in our gym everyday. This championship is ours."
