Max Loya enters his 11th year in coaching junior college football and 6th season at Sierra College. Since 2023 coach Loya has also served as Pass Defense Coordinator. In 2022, Coach Loya was key in preparing the Wolverine secondary to ground opponents' air attacks, holding them to the fewest passing yards per game since 2008. 

As the DB coach at Sierra, Coach Loya mentored 2x All-American Cornerback and 2x state interception leader Will Brocchini (Whitney HS, Old Dominion), All-State Safeties S.J. Brown (East Nicolaus HS, Towson University) and Eian Moore (Sheldon HS, Sacramento State), as well as All-Conferece players Trevion Shadrick-Harris (Tracy HS, UCF), Amir Lemmons (Inderkum HS), and Lanar Kelly.

Prior to arriving at Sierra, Loya was the defensive backs coach at Mt. San Jacinto College in Southern California.

Originally from Pomona, CA, he earned his B.A. from Sacramento State University and his Master's degree from Cal Baptist University. Coach Loya resides in Yuba City with his daughter Delilah, and son Max Jr.
