Volleyball Takes Down Santa Rosa 3-1; Finishes First Half of Big 8 Play 6-2

After a postponement earlier in the season, Sierra Volleyball traveled to Santa Rosa on Monday, October 21 to face the Bear Cubs to close out the first half of 2019 Big 8 play. The Wolverines stumbled in the second set, but found their footing in the third and fourth to take down Santa Rosa 3-1 and improve to 6-2 in the Big 8.

Prior to the Santa Rosa match, Sierra fell to American River and Delta. Sierra struggled in fifth set play, with both league losses coming in close 5 set games. Despite the two losses, Sierra is still one of the top three Big 8 teams, and with the second half of play starting in two days, the Wolverines have their eyes on a fourth straight Big 8 title.

In the Santa Rosa game, Sierra's Kaleya Sanchez was the evenings kills leader with 16, while Jacy Dean and Alyssa Lovell both recorded 10 kills. Bekah McGill set up 33 of Sierra's 46 assists, while Kaleya Sanchez, Abby Schimmel and Alyssa Orteza topped the stats sheet in digs with 16, 14 and 10 respectively.

As a team, Sierra is hitting .176 on the season, averaging 12.08 kills per set, 11.23 assists per set, 1.68 blocks per set and 13.54 digs per set. Sierra's 894 kills in 20 matches is the fifth most in the CCCAA, and 831 assists is good for third in the state.

Sierra hosts Modesto on Wednesday (October 23) at 6:30pm, and then Folsom on Friday (October 25) at 6:30pm. Both matches are at Sierra's Goto/Goldenberg Court in Rocklin.
