Sierra Volleyball Topples ARC 3-2, Preps for Final Big 8 Match this Tuesday

Ninth ranked Sierra Women's Volleyball pulled out all the stops last Friday at American River, toppling the fourth ranked Beavers in a thrilling 3-2 victory which brought Sierra neck and neck with ARC for first place in the 2019 Big 8 championship race.

Sierra entered the match a game behind American River, needing to win in order to preserve their chance at a fourth straight Big 8 title. Sierra, who lost to the beavers 3-2 earlier in the season, started the evening off slow with a first set 25-17 loss. Refocusing, Sierra found their footing in the second and third, winning those 25-20 and 25-23. In a match befitting the two Big 8 leaders however, ARC battled back to win set four 25-22 and forcing a fifth and deciding set.

The Wolverines and Beavers went back and fourth, but in the end Sierra's Bekah McGill served the winning ace which clipped the net, falling short of the ARC defense to win Sierra the match with a fifth set score of 15-13.

Both teams now have a Big 8 record of 13-2, resulting in a tie for first place in the Big 8 standings. Each must win their respective Tuesday games to clinch the co-championship. Should both Sierra and ARC lose on Tuesday, there would be a three way tie between Sierra, ARC and Delta for the 2019 Big 8 title.

Sierra will host Delta on Tuesday, November 19 at 6:30pm in Rocklin.
