Volleyball Sweeps Sequoias 3-0 in Round One of NorCal Playoffs

Sierra College Women's Volleyball is on to round two of the 2019 NorCal Playoffs with a decisive 3-0 victory over Sequoias last Tuesday. With the win, Sierra joins the field of eight remaining NorCal teams vying for a spot at the 2019 CCCAA State Championship in Chula Vista next weekend. Sierra will face Cabrillo this Saturday in the finals, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.

Last Tuesday saw a dominant Wolverine squad, who was never really threatened by Sequoias. Despite a few early set leads by the Giants, the Wolverines controlled the match with a team hitting percentage of .396, and racked up 50 kills, 47 assists and 46 digs on the evening.

Ashley Almond was dominant in several rolls, leading the Wolverines with 12 kills, recorded the second most assists with 18 and came in third in digs with 7. Leading in the setting category was Bekah McGill with 27 assists, while Alyssa Orteza lead in digs with 17.

Additionally, Kaleya Sanchez picked up second in digs with 9, along with being second on the team with 9 kills, tied with Jacy Dean in the latter category. Hannah Platt and Alyssa Lovell each padded the stats with 7 kills a piece, tied for third on the team in that category.

With the win, the 6 seeded Wolverines will now head to Aptos CA this Saturday, November 30 to face Cabrillo (NorCal #3) in the 2019 NorCal finals. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
