Saturday, August 31st, the current Wolverines hosted the former athletes of the Sierra College Women's Water Polo program in Scott Decker's last Alumni game before his retirement. The current team of 15 athletes faced an abundant team of 45 Alumni. These Alumni included athletes from Scott Decker's first team of the program, his athletes from the previous season, and every team in between.
A few notable alumni for the Wolverines included Kate Foucek (McCollum), Danielle Noss (Hall), Heather Blair (Stiles), and Leslie Carlson (Iervolino). These Alumni were athletes on Decker's first team and have awards, given to current athletes, named in their honor. These awards include the Kate McCollum Coaches' Award, the Danielle Hall Most Valuable Player Award, the Heather Stiles Most Defensive Player Award, and the Leslie Iervolino Most Improved Player Award. Four of Decker's former assistant coaches, Jenai Hart (Haley), Rachel Jaeger (Holm), Michelle Pare (Berrios), and Kelsey Carrigan, and his current assistant Morgan Jones played while former assistant coach Corey Stowell returned to the familiar position and coached for the Alumni team.
Over 25 years of hosting an alumni game, the current athletes in the water polo program have never beaten the Alumni team. For a few years, they have been close, including last year with the game resulting in an 11-11 tie. However, this year, the current athletes narrowly edged out the Alumni with an 11-10 win. Along with the unprecedented win from the current Wolverines, the attendance from the Alumni was also something that had never been seen before. With 60 total athletes, the stands were filled with generations of family and friends to show support for Scott Decker and the years of athletes who have upheld the tradition and culture of the Sierra College Women's Water Polo Program.
