New Sierra gym set to be opened in Spring 2025
Construction is continuously progressing for the new gymnasium building at Sierra College that is set to open next spring that will play host to Wolverines volleyball and basketball teams.
"It is very exciting," Athletic Director Rachel Johnson said. "Being able to see the building take shape after all these years of planning has been very exciting. It's also great for our current students and recruits to see the progress."
The gym, funded by the state and district via Measure E that was voted on in 2018, will be 81,000 square feet and will provide efficient space for PE classes. The gymnasium is one of many active projects for facilities improvements at the Rocklin campus with others including: a new science building, new student housing, a new instructional building, modernization of the applied technology center and modernization of Weaver Hall.
Measure E provided $350 million in facilities bond funding and is the first bond approved for the Rocklin campus since the campus was built back in 1957.
The new gymnasium, code compliant and modern, will be able to accommodate over 1000 spectators, which is more than the prior gym held.
"In addition, we were able to fit three full size courts which will be amazing for hosting camps and events as well as maximizing our practice and instructional offerings," Johnson said.
There is currently no final move-in date and no first event that is planned. Sierra College will continue to play volleyball and basketball games at Jessup University while construction finishes on the new facility.
"We are just really excited for this new phase of Sierra College Athletics," Johnson said. "There was so much history in the previous gym, and I think everyone's excited to make new memories and build on our tradition of success in our new space."
