Wolverines Improve to 7-0, Ranked 3rd in State, 1st in NorCal

Sierra College Women's Soccer entered Big 8 Conference play with a 5-0 record, and have added two conference wins to their already impressive season and now sit at 7-0 overall, 2-0 in the Big 8. With a 2-1 win over Cosumnes River, and a 4-1 win over Diablo Valley. Sierra is now the only NorCal team without a loss or a tie this season, and one of only four programs in the state with no losses or ties.

Cosumnes River Match:
Sierra opened Big 8 play at Cosumnes River College with a close 2-1 victory. Sierra dropped the lead midway through the first half to a determined Hawk squad, but tied things up in the 44th minute off a Christina Kanellou goal, and headed into the half with a tied score of 1-1. While Sierra maintained solid possession of the ball, the Wolverines were unable to find the back of the net in the second half, until Macey Moen took advantage of a CRC miscue and scored the winning goal in the 90th minute of play.

Diablo Valley Match:
Sierra's Big 8 home opener was a battle of the undefeated, as Sierra (6-0 before the match) hosted Diablo Valley (4-0 before the match). Sierra sent the Vikings home with a 4-1 loss, DVC's first of the season. Sierra's Macey Moen opened things up in the 23rd minute, scoring off an assist from Samantha Craig. Craig followed up with her own goal 15 minutes later off an assist from Grace Vargas. After the half, Sierra padded the lead with two more goals, one unassisted from Grace Vargas and another from Samantha Craig with an assist from Francis Andrade. DVC's Marjan Haydaree found the back of the net in the 89th minute to put the Vikings on the board, but Sierra held off any further scoring attempts to Winn it with the 4-1 final.
