Scott Decker started his coaching career in 1984 at UC Davis as an assistant for the Women’s Water Polo Program. During the next 4 years, he assisted then Head Coach Jamey Wright until he graduated in 1987. Upon graduation in 1987, Scott Decker was hired as the Men’s Water Polo and Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach at El Camino High School in Sacramento. Over the next 10 years, Decker guided the Eagles Water Polo teams to over 200 victories during his tenure, and was twice named Capital Athletic League Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1995.
In 1994, Scott Decker became the 1st Women’s Water Polo Coach in Sierra College History, and has been the only one since. During his 30 years at the helm of the Lady Wolverines Water Polo program, Decker has amassed 546 wins (Top 2 in CCCAA history for Women’s Water Polo), while guiding the Lady Wolverines to 15 Conference Championships, 8 Northern California Regional Championships (Most All-Time), 22 State Championship Tournament Appearances (2ndMost All-Time), 2 State Championship Game Appearances, and in 2018 became the 1st Team ever from Northern California to win the Women’s Water Polo State Championship. The Sierra College Women’s Water Polo program has produced 78 Community College All-American Water Polo players, and has been awarded the CCCAA Team Scholar Award 3 Times. During his tenure, Scott Decker has been named Conference & Northern California Coach of the Year multiple times including this year (2024), as well as State Coach of the Year in 2018.
