Wolverine Week in Review — February 11, 2020

 

Women's Basketball takes down defending state champions Diablo Valley, Baseball extends win streak to 7 and Women's Tennis dominates at the Modesto Tournament. In addition, the Wolverine Athletic Association inducted 8 new members to the Sierra College Athletic Hall of Fame, including the 2008 State Champion Baseball team.

Baseball

Last week, Baseball extended their win streak to 7, with a 5-4 victory over Solano College on Friday, February 7. That was Sierra's second victory over Solano in as many days, having defeated the Falcons 9-3 last Thursday. Sierra is now 7-2 overall and will play an away game at Butte on Tuesday, February 11 before hosting Laney and De Anza next Thursday (Feb. 13) and Saturday (Feb. 15) respectively.


Men's Basketball

Men's Basketball hosted Diablo Valley last Friday, giving the Big 8 conference leaders a run for their money before falling to the Vikings 81-70. Sierra men's basketball will head to Santa Rosa this Tuesday (Feb. 11) before hosting Sacramento City on Thursday, February 13 at 5:30pm.


Women's Basketball

Women's Basketball also faced Diablo Valley last week, and after finding themselves behind 40-37 at halftime, battled back to knock off the defending women's basketball state champions 84-76 and handing DVC just their 4th loss of the season. The Women's team will play two away games against Santa Rosa and Folsom Lake before hosting American River College in their final home game of regular season play on Friday, February 21 at 7:30pm.


Softball

Softball hosted Feather River and San Mateo last Saturday, run-ruling Feather River 10-2 in five innings before falling to the Bulldogs of San Mateo 10-7. Marina DeLucchi went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and three RBIs, Natalie Nash went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Kaylee Winn was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Sierra next hosts West Valley College on Tuesday, February 11 at 2:00pm in Rocklin.


Women's Tennis

Women's Tennis headed to Modesto for the Modesto tournament last weekend, walking away with an overwhelming 23 out of 25 matches won. The Wolverines were overall team champs, winning 10 championship matches.


Hall of Fame

On Saturday evening, the Wolverine Athletic Association inducted 8 new members to the Sierra College Athletic Hall of Fame. The first induction since the 2013 class, 7 new names were added, as well as the 2008 State Champion Baseball team. Those new members are prolific former student-athletes, coaches, administrators and support staff who have made an indelible impact on Sierra College Athletics and our Wolverine Family.
