Tuesday night was cause for celebration in Rocklin, as Sierra College Women's Basketball topped Diablo Valley 68-53 in a Big 8 Conference thriller. Diablo Valley, the only remaining undefeated women's basketball team in the state and the number one ranked team in the most recent CCCSIA state poll, entered the evening 21-0 before falling to the Wolverines.

As the two programs kicked things off, it was Sierra who quickly took the lead and held it for the majority of the game, with a first quarter score of 13-9, and stretching the lead to 13 by halftime with 31-18 on the board. In the third, DVC looked like they might have a rally on the horizon, outscoring Sierra 21-16, but Sierra was quick to shut the door. With a fourth quarter score of 21-14, Sierra assured the 68-53 victory and sent Diablo Valley back to Pleasant Hill with their first loss of the 2018-19 season.

Sierra out played DVC in most major statistical categories, edging the Vikings in field goal percentage (38.3% to 28.8%); 3 point percentage (33.3% to 12%); rebounds (52-29); and turnovers (23-15). Shanel Jamison led Sierra with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while fellow Wolverines Kailee McCarrick and Jessie Armstrong also scored in the double digits, racking up 15 and 14 points respectively, while Aycee Willis was second in the rebounds category with 10.

Sierra hits the road for two games before returning to Rocklin to host Santa Rosa on February 12 at 7:30pm. That game is the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game. Admission is free, and the American Cancer Society will be collecting donations.
