Playoff Bound! Sierra Women’s Basketball (6) Hosts Sequoias (11) Friday at 7pm

For the 28th straight season, Sierra College Women's Basketball is headed to the CCCAA Playoffs, a ticket to the state championship on the line. This Friday, Sierra will host College of the Sequoias at 7:00pm in Rocklin in round 2 of the playoffs, neither team having played in the round one play ins. Sierra, the NorCal #6 seed, finished third in the Big 8 behind Delta (NorCal #1) and DVC (NorCal #2) and has a regular season record of 20-7, 10-4 in the Big 8. Sequoias went 19-9 in their 2020 season, and finished 8-4 in the Central Valley, good for second place in their league behind NorCal #5 Merced.

Sierra averaged 78 points per game, 28.5 field goals, 7.8 three pointers, 42.8 rebounds and a free throw percentage of 64.3. Kailee McCarrick leads the Wolverines with an average 22.7 points per game in her 20 games played, while Jenna Duley averaged 14.4, playing in 26 of Sierra's 27 games. McCormick also leads the team in field goal percentage with 41.1, followed closely by Alyssa Baker with 40.3 percent.

Three Sierra players garnered All Conference selections in the Big 8, while two picked up all state awards:

Sequoias averaged 71.3 points per game across their 28 game season. The Giants have a 39.7 field goal percentage, have scored 9.3 free throws per game on average, and have a three point percentage of 27.8 and 43.2 rebounds per game.

Team leaders for COS include Alaysia Reed with an average 12.2 points per game, followed by Felicia Ramirez and Aubrey Nunes with 10 each. From the free throw line, Neli Diaz and Lucy Tazio pace the Giants with 80 percent each, and McKenna Hsiung made 53 three pointers with a season 3PT percentage of 30.8.

These two teams have not played each other since December 4, 2015, when they faced off at Sequoias. Sierra won that contest 70-48.
