Women’s Soccer Clinches Big 8 Title; Remains Undefeated in 2018

Sierra College Women's Soccer took home the 2018 Big 8 Conference Championship with Tuesday night's 2-0 win over American River College. Sierra, now 19-0 (14-0 in the Big 8) has recorded the winningest season since 2002 (when Sierra put up a 21-1-4 record), and have won the program's fourth conference title, the first since 2013.

In Tuesday evenings match against American River, it was two second-half goals that would win it for Sierra. One goal came from Keely Fink off an assist from Alexis Day in the 75th minute, followed by a Vanessa Alonzo goal in the 89th minute off an assist from Samantha Craig. Keeper Jordan Higgins recorded three saves on the day, while American River held Sierra to just two goals, despite 10 shots on goal by the Wolverines.

Sierra has now outscored their 2018 opponents 94-10, with a team shot percentage of .280 and averaging 4.95 goals per game with 17.7 shots per game.

Sierra hosts Folsom Lake in a Big 8 match on Friday, November 2 at 4:00pm.
