Women’s Soccer Advances to 2019 NorCal Finals with 4-1 Win over Clovis

Sierra College Women's Soccer hosted Clovis on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in round two of NorCal Playoff action. Despite a gusty, cold and drizzly day in Rocklin, as well as a strong Clovis squad, Sierra knocked off the Crush with a 4-1 victory, advancing to the NorCal finals against Lake Tahoe this Monday.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the 12th minute off a Laney Paduveris (asst. from Baleigh Zamudio) goal. At the 22nd, a brilliant penalty kick from Bridget Pelzman just edged its way between the Clovis keeper's outstretched hand and the crossbar for another Wolverine goal. The Crush would put one on the board in the 30th minute, cutting Sierra's lead in half before the Wolverines again found a way past the Clovis defense to pad their lead, improving to 3-1 at the half.

The wind started to really pick up in the second half, and as such saw less scoring, with just a single goal from Sierra's Paige Martinsen, assisted by Grace Vargas. Despite the less than ideal conditions, both teams play a strong second half, but with a solid lead going in, it was Sierra who emerged victorious, sending Clovis home with a season record of 10-8-3, while Sierra improved to 21-3 overall in 2019 so far.

Sierra will hit the road Monday for the NorCal Finals, facing Lake Tahoe in a rematch of last years finals. Game time is at 4:00pm and the game will be played at Cosumnes River College due to inclament weather in Tahoe.
