Wolverines Open Season with Back-to-Back Wins

Sierra College Women's Volleyball opened the 2018 season with a pair of wins over Shasta College and College of Marin Wednesday afternoon in Rocklin. Between the two matches, Sierra averaged 12.83 kills per set, 10.67 digs per set and are hitting .321 as a team.

The first match of the afternoon was against Shasta, which saw Sierra claim their first win of the season, a 3-0 victory over the Knights (25-19, 25-19, 25-19). Madison Meteer was dealing all match, delivering 12 of Sierra's 40 kills along with 5 digs and an ace. Meghan Merlino picked up 9 kills, with Gabby Roberts recording 8. Defensively, Alex Cook was responsible for 31 of 36 assists, along with a kill and an ace.

The final match of the evening paired Sierra against College of Marin. Sierra won 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-6), with Madison Meteer again leading the Wolverines in kills with 12, along with 9 digs, 3 blocks and an ace. Meghan Merlino recorded 10 kills and Jasmine Dean finished match two with 5 kills, 3 blocks and an ace.

Sierra will take on Feather River and Butte on Friday. Feather River, who went 26-6 overall last year, will face off with Sierra at 12:00pm, followed by a Butte Feather River contest at 2pm. For the third match of the day, Sierra will take on Butte, who had a 2017 overall record of 21-9, at 4:00pm.
